By now, Dewalt's DW718 Heavy-Duty 12" Double-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw has been on the market long enough to either solidify or completely dissolve its initial reputation of total superiority. It's been in the hands of craftsmen and on the wind of word-of-mouth for long enough to climb into or crumble out of a position in the miter sawing hall of fame. The DW718 has been tromped and trucked around heavy-duty jobsites for long enough, by now, to earn its keep or outlast its welcome. And well, my friends and fellow crafters, let me tell you something else about the DW718 - it has lived up to every expectation and has pushed beyond every barrier to become one of the most searched for, purchased, used, and coveted miter saws in the industry today. It's a phenomenon.

And it isn't simply good luck that has brought Dewalt's DW718 to such staggering success; this beastly double-bevel sliding compound miter saw also has an intense 15 amp, 3,600 rpm motor that fancily shakes its fancy tail feathers, and its extended power and durability, at the competition. The saw has an adjustable stainless steel miter detent plate with 10 positive stops to vastly improve your productivity and completely enhance your cutting accuracy, and with a precise miter system and machined base fence support, your cutting accuracy is even more completely optimized for always precise efficiency. The help of a cam lock miter handle (with detent override) additionally allows you and the DW718 to produce fast and exactly accurate miter angles and because the saw is designed for use with Dewalt's DW7187 adjustable miter saw laser system, your overall cutting accuracy has the potential of total perfection. Wait - what's the DW7187 adjustable miter saw laser system? Oh, well really, its just some radical little something that earth-shatteringly enhances the visibility of the your cutting path in virtually every working condition conceivable; no big deal. And despite the big power and big versatile space of this miter, it is still both compact and lightweight weighing only 53 measly pounds. Said compact, clever design allows for simple jobsite transportation, convenient storage, and simple working maneuverability as well. What more can you really want - except for maybe this, I suppose...

Additionally, and perhaps a bit more technically, the tool's capacities are pretty darn near unbelievable; delivering a huge amount of working space and a huge number of applications the saw miters 60 degrees to the left and 50 degrees to the right, and with an evolved gearbox and belt-drive design the saw's vertical cutting capacity is increased as well. A single lever action double bevel design allows you to easily bevel 0 degrees - 48 degrees to both the left and right with positive stops (in both directions) at 0 degrees, 22.5 degrees, 33.9 degrees and 45 degrees; this little perk of the saw, in turn, allows users to simply flip the saw without flipping the material being, well, sawed. The DW718 also has an exclusive and totally innovative back fence design which can miraculously cut up to 2x16 dimensional lumber at 90 degrees and 2x12 at 45 degrees.

Tall sliding fences additionally support crown molding up to 6-5/8" nested, and base molding up to 6-1/2" vertically against the fence; they're basically incredible, incredibly helpful, and can easily slide out of the way for bevel cuts. Also, with the extra help of dual horizontal steel rails (with a superior clamping mechanism and linear ball bearings) the saw is altogether accurate, compact, durable, versatile, and always accommodating. It's a contractor's best friend and favorite working companion. It's like the ice-cream man, summer-night barbeques, and your riding lawn mower all mixed up into one hard-bodied, yet humble, big-shot of a power tool.

DeWalt DW718 Review - What I Think of the DeWalt DW718 Sliding Compound Miter Saw

!±8± DeWalt DW718 Review - What I Think of the DeWalt DW718 Sliding Compound Miter Saw

The DeWalt DW718 is a 12-inch dual bevel sliding compound miter saw that comes equipped with a powerful 15-amp motor that operates at 3,600 RPM. The bevels are at 0 to 48 degrees which gives you better cut capacity and there's also 4 bevel stops at 0, 22.5, 33.9, and 45 degrees in both directions so that you can flip the saw instead of the material you're cutting.

The DeWalt DW718 has a very precise miter system along with a machined base fence support to allow you to make accurate cuts every time. The adjustable stainless steel detent plate is another great feature because it has 10 positive stops to give you even more accuracy and durability.

The vertical cutting capacity is also very nice with this miter saw. It miters 60 degrees to the left and 50 degrees to the right and is able to cut 3-1/2 crown vertically and 3-1/4 base vertically.

Another great aspect of this DeWalt model is the miter cam lock system. This makes the saw much easier to use and gives you a more accurate miter table positioning. There is also a tall sliding fence that supports crown molding up to 6-5/8 inches nested and base molding up to 6-1/2 inches vertically against the fence. This can be easily slid out of the way though when you need to do bevel cuts.

You're able to cut up to 2x16 dimensional lumber at 90 degrees and 2x12 inch lumber at 45 degrees with the built-in back fence design. The weight of the DeWalt DW718 is 53 pounds and although it doesn't come with a laser, you're able to easily equip one because it's compatible with the DW7187 laser system.
